‘Once upon a time in het veen’ (PeerGrouP 2014) was daarvan het meest sprekende voorbeeld natuurlijk.

English

In the past couple of years I had some great experiences making theatre plays based on movies, played on location. The movies where choosen because of the subject or story was parallel to the situation at the place we were going to create the play. There was always a shared emergency. So far Once upon a time in het veen (PeerGrouP, 2014) was the best example of this. In which the main story is that when you want a train to stop you have to build a station.

But it is notsimply choosing a sensational movie title. Choosing a sensational landscape is better. And they can be found anywhere. And after choosing the landscape slowly try to understand which movie fits there. Another example of this was the use of the movie 12 angry men as inspiration for the play Verdwenen Veen (PeerGrouP, 2013). Here were people that wanted to deceide themselves and were willing to listen to different opinions. As long as they were equal and taken seriously. But not as members of jury. This is where we left the movie. We aimed for local democrazy in a region that is often described as deprivated.

Clearly to us is that using film for theatre, in which the film and the landscape lead us, is worthwhile and asks for new work. In cooperation with locals. And we are open to suggestions.
